We managed to get away for Mary's birthday and take Pearl to Northumberland. Neither of us have been before but we'll definitely be back! Beaches stretch on forever and are so quiet. There's lots of campsites to choose from but you have to book early in August. We stayed in to different sites, one near Beadnell and one near Aldwick. Both right by the coast.
We fully recommend The Craster Seafood Restaurant where we had an delicious seafood platter http://www.kipper.co.uk/restaurant/ With brilliant staff who managed to get us a table even though we hadn't booked ahead.
